Competition for women
The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski was the overall winner after keeping her lead throughout the competition. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. In addition to these athletes, the Women's competition will also feature a newcomer to the sport - Icelandan competitor Sara Sigmundsdottir, who won the first place medal in the World Crossfit Games earlier this year.
Pegboard contest
The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games are a competition where athletes focus on ten skills that improve their physical fitness: speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility. The Pegboard contest tests a competitor's grip strength and coordination. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. Cutting system
CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. Major cuts occur in the first six events. The field is now reduced to 75. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announces new CrossFit Games clothing, shoes and other equipment. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They can be used for multiple fitness goals. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement.
